Bernard is the keeper of Gloria, Foundry's huge old electric arc furnace that has fallen to a state of disrepair.

Super Steel smelting
Once Gloria has been fixed and the beast is gone, Bernard offers to use Gloria to smelt Stygian Coins into Super Steel Plates. A single set of super steel plates needs 3000 stygian coins and 20 minutes. The quality of plates you get is random, ranging from 70 to 160, or up to 180 with the Expedition expansion. Bernard can work on one, two or three sets of super steel plates at once. The random quality is rolled when the smelting procedure begins.
Bringing Super Steel Refining Data to Bernard will increase the average quality of the plates, increasing the minimum quality range by 20Verify for each plate. Four pieces of refining data will ensure that the resulting super steel is within the range of 150-180Verify quality or 150-160 quality without the expansion.
